Hi everyone, have a quick question. This year I purchased a z910a 48 inch mainly for residential use and love it. Next year I planned on gettIng rid of my lazer z and replacing it with a z920a 60 inch. I wanted a 925 or 930 but my dealer says he doesn't have any now and won't be able to get any next year due to the new models coming in. He does have a couple of z920 60 inches in crates and said that I would be very pleased with one. He said he sold more of them than any other model this year and with no complaints. My only fear is that the 23.5 Kwai won't have enough ump for thick grass, hills, or a combination of both. If any one has this model or have used it any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Last year, I had a new Z720 with the 25 HP Kohler, at least it was rated at the number at the time, but now it is re-rated to an actual HP number of either 21.9 or 22.5, depending on if you go by Deere's website, or the labels they stick on the engine once they receive them from Kohler. I've seen both numbers now:rolleyes:)

Regardless of the HP number, it had a 60 7 Iron II deck, and it ran it with no problem in thick and/or tall grass with both OEM high lifts, and G6's. However, if you have any steep hills to negotiate, I'd hold out for more power on a different model.

Since those machines are not only left over stock, they are also about to be out of date models too, so I would try for the best deal I could get. Right now you are in a better position to deal than he is.

Thanks guys, I was kinda thinking the same as for the hills. My z910 is a beast as long as the ground is flat, but on a decent grade you bet not think of slamming the sticks to far forward to quickly or it bogs down BAD! I didn't want to spent the extra money but I might just try to get a 930. This will be the last mower I but for a long long time hopefully and I don't want to be sorry later.

Then you may want to look into a 950. I know they are more money still, but the extra ponies are worth it IMO. I bought one this past spring with the MOD deck, and it has plent of power, hills or no hills. The salesman tried to talk me into a 930 (mainly because they had several of them sitting there), but I wanted the extra HP and I'm glad I stuck to my guns.

Hey ridin green, if you dont mind asking what was the price of the 950 or at least what was the difference in price between the two? And also what kind of fuel consumption does it have?

The 950 was $10,900 with the MOD deck which was a $700 upgrade, and it was about $700 more than the 930 when comparing the two with the same deck on them. I haven't checked it lately, but last I checked I was getting right around 1.5 GPH on average lawns.

The 920 is not enough power. I had a demo for a few days and it would slow down just moving the levers forward to fast. Would bog down going up any kind of incline. JD's hydros are POWER HUNGRY.

Because of the good info from you guys I pretty much ruled the 920 out. I called my dealer to get a price on a 930 60inch. He said it was a little over $9000 and a 950 60 inch was $9900. I called another dealer pretty close to me and his 930 was $9800 and 950 was $10600. As of now it looks like I'll be getting a 950 from my dealer come Jan 1st.

Sure you don't want it before Dec 31? Take the write off this year!

No, I've bought enough equipment this year I'm pretty well setPeople with brains and a go-getter attitude own the world. with taxes. That's kind of why I'm buying jan 1st. That way I can use it on next years write off list. I hate to spend the money that early before grass starts growing but I have a cyclone rake I can use with it for leaves and most importantly I'm afraid that if I don't buy early I'll miss out on getting one. I've seen the new JD line up and it looks like they followed exmarks lead in taking a good mower and turning it into 50 different models. I've never been one to want the first years production of anything, this is when s__t happens. I know the z900s work and that's what I want.

My Deere dealer told me he couldn't order a 2012 950 per John Deere. He would have to wait for the 2013 model year. Something to check on. I went ahead and bought a 930 now and did the no payments til April 1, 2013 and 0% interest for 3 years.
